Our mission at My Very Own Library is to create access, eliminate inequity, and create supportive communities where students can grow as readers and scholars.
My Very Own Library is a program model that supports the importance of reading, access to books, book ownership, and books in the home.
MVOL partners with non profit organizations like Team Long Run, and school districts throughout the United States and the Dominican Republic to support literacy in schools and communities. MVOL is committed to working with schools and communities to increase equity and access to books for all school age children.
Children who have greater access to print materials are more likely to have better attitudes toward reading, are more motivated to read, tend to read more, have better language development, show stronger emergent literacy skills, show stronger reading and writing skills and demonstrate better overall academic achievement.
For the 2020-21 school year, Team Long Run is supporting 3 elementary schools through MVOL. Each child will receive 5 books of their own to take home and enjoy, and build their own personal library! Through the generous support of donors, the books we give the children only cost us $5, and each school gets a nice credit to purchase whatever they need for their school through the Scholastic website.
My Very Own Library’s Mission: We believe that books can change the course of a child’s life.
Every child deserves access to books, but more than that, they deserve to not have their education profoundly impacted by inadequate funding and resources.
